Spiral Flute Taps

Spiral Flute Taps

We carry two of the most commonly used types of spiral flute taps including regular helix spiral flute taps and high helix spiral flute taps.

Our taps comply with all ANSI and ISO standards and specifications and are produced from high quality steels and carbide to meet the needs of our customers. Our goal is to provide cost effective tooling solutions through improved tool life, geometrical improvements, technological coating advances, technical support and effective inventory.

What is a Spiral Fluted Tap?

Spiral taps are one of the most commonly used taps in the U.S. These taps have flutes that encircle the axis of the tap in a helical (or spiral) manner.

Spiral taps are especially important when tapping blind holes (holes that penetrate material partially, not completely). In order to ensure that no chips remain in the hole, the spiral fluted tap evacuates the chips out of the hole cleanly, toward the tap shank.

Features of a Spiral Flute Tap:

  • Most commonly used for tapping blind holes to prevent chips from remaining in the hole.
  • Recommended for use in metals that result in curled or stringy chips (aluminum, brass, copper, etc).
  • Not recommended for tapping material over 32 HRC.
  • Because of the geometry of the helix and resultant narrower core, they do not have as strong torsional strength as hand taps.

Our spiral flute taps are manufactured in our state-of-the-art facilities, equipped with robot-loading CNC machinery, highly experienced operators, advanced in-house quality control and heat-treating capabilities.

Regular Helix Spiral Flute Taps

Helical fluted taps are designed to provide lifting action to remove chips.Recommended for stringy materials.
