Specialty Taps

These unique groups of tools all have a specific application where they are most suitable. As a company who specializes in custom taps we have chosen to continue to offer these both as standard and when needed special to meet the customer’s need.  Each has a  purpose related either to the thread form as in the case of Acme, National Special or Whitworth, or in the design making the application of the specific style the most efficient for the purpose of tool life performance.

The lead of a tap is the distance it will travel along it's axis in one revolution. A double lead will travel twice that distance in one revolution. The most common use is in adjusting mechanisms where a clockwise turn will make a linear distance movement twice the distance of a single lead.
